Overseas students who are enrolled in CRICOS courses are eligible to apply for subclass 500 visa. Tertiary students are required to show evidence of English, unless enrolled in a packaged course with English course element. It is critical for students to demonstrate that they are genuine temporary entrant, with intention to return to their home county upon completion of their study in Australia. It is also important to access to sufficient financial support to cover their tuition and living expenses for the first 12 months. Under current regulations, students seeking further study in Australia can only enrol in courses either at the same level as previous course, or higher level. Students must maintain satisfactory attendance records and achieve satisfactory academic progress.

Parent of students under 18 years of age is eligible to apply for Student Guardian visa, subclass 590. Only one parent can apply for this visa, and only minors who are under 5 years old can be included as secondary applicants.
